Exhibition Luxembourg volunteers of the Korean War
The first major conflict of the Cold War, the Korean War (1950-1953) forced the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to clearly position itself on the international political scene. In concert with Belgium, it provides a detachment of fighters as part of a UN mission and thus firmly commits itself to the side of the American ally and the free world.
Who are these 85 volunteers, who went to the other side of the world? What are their motivations, the conditions of their commitment and the tasks that await them in Korea? Finally, how can we explain that the Korean conflict has become a "forgotten war", today little anchored in Luxembourg's collective memory?
Remember that two young volunteers came from Mondorf-les-Bains.
