Vernissage - Expositions Gossip matters hard to grasp et superimposition
“GOSSIP matters hard to grasp”:
Until the 14th century, “I'm going out with my gossip” (literally I go out with my gossip partner, a person with whom I maintain familiar relationships and trust, a friend) is a common statement primarily used by people who identify and are socialized as feminine to describe their intention to meet among trusted people. In the context of the time, the term “gossip” is associated, beyond friends, generally with people who share their wisdom. Gossips also have the mission of transmitting stories orally, thus contributing largely to the well-being of the community.
With the advent of capitalism and the devaluation of the knowledge of people read as women that goes hand in hand, the meaning of the word evolves towards informal chatter. Today, the term systematically embodies a negative connotation and an intrinsic devaluation of activities and knowledge systems perceived as “feminine”.
