The art of the portrait Roland Schauls on Joseph kutter - conference
Exchange between the curator of the exhibition Lis Hausemer and the artist Roland Schauls
Since the early 2000s, Roland Schauls, who likes to reference art history in his paintings, has been regularly interested in the work of Joseph Kutter. Indeed, just as with Kutter, the human figure, and especially the portrait, occupies a central place in Schauls. His monumental work Portrait Society (1995-98), which has been hanging at the National Museum for several years, illustrates the artist's fascination with portraiture and more particularly self-portraiture. In an exchange with the curator of the exhibition, Roland Schauls discusses the art of portraiture and the importance of the artistic life of Joseph Kutter.
