April 25, 1974: fall of the dictatorship in Portugal. Many Portuguese find refuge in Luxembourg. 50 years later, the Nationalmusée is preparing a major exhibition.

The overthrow of the dictatorship in Portugal, illuminated from a Luxembourg perspective, is at the heart of a major exhibition that the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart will open on April 25, 2024, exactly fifty years after the Carnation Revolution. Luxembourg today has more than 100,000 people whose life journey has been marked by these events (people of various nationalities and origins, from Portugal or the former Portuguese colonies). Citizens who immigrated in large numbers to the Grand Duchy in the 1960s and 1970s when Portugal was still under the yoke of dictatorship or was entering, following April 25, 1974, into a democratic process.
