Ciné-conférence Images at Work (Images at Work)
Since the Lumière brothers recorded their employees leaving the factory, the camera lens has become a crucial witness to the evolutions, histories and politics surrounding labour. In this ciné-conférence, the researcher and curator of the current Images at Work exhibition at Casino – Forum d’art contemporain, Laura Lux, will talk about the Lumières’ beginnings and their early fascination with the depiction of work while showing three recordings of their iconic Workers Leaving the Factory. The lecture will then discuss the legacy of the Lumière brothers’ and their influence on contemporary documentary practices, including on the directors of the works that will screen after the talk: Harun Farocki, Kevin Jerome Everson and Sharon Lockhart.
