A Model: prelude
As a prelude to the A Model exhibition, Rayyane Tabet (1983, Achkout, Lebanon) received carte blanche to develop a specific project for the Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Pavilion. An architect by training, Rayyane Tabet attaches great importance to the place in which her projects take place. His installations take into account the historical framework of the architecture of the exhibition space and reveal its singularity, as well as its contradictions.
The artist bases his work on the analysis of socio-cultural contexts. His work combines historical memory and subjectivity to offer an alternative reading to the official narrative that surrounds his object of study. For the pavilion, the artist imagined Trilogy, an installation which revolves around key moments in contemporary history and Luxembourg, in dialogue with his own memories.
His installation includes a flagship set from the Mudam Collection, Sanatorium Paimio (room furniture), designed by the architect Alvar Aalto between 1930 and 1933. Emblematic of the architect's functionalist research and humanist thinking, this furniture has was designed to contribute to the well-being and even recovery of residents.
