Sammy Vomáčka has made a name for himself far beyond Germany's borders as a fingerpicking specialist in ragtime, folk and blues.
Born in the Czech Republic, he has been touring as a solo guitarist for many years. Subsequently he turned to jazz. The former folk picker now plays pure, high-flying jazz as part of a classical trio, which constitutes the ultimate challenge for a guitarist. Vomáčka strings together one jazz standard after another with disconcerting ease. He handles melodic arcs and motifs with complete freedom, constantly drawing new harmonic variations and remaining one hundred percent authentic. The music is lively, airy, unforced and free, but it has a convincing swing; it is harmonically complex, but does not seem distant for a single moment.
