Mary in the junkyard, Use Knife, Bwana - Les aralunaires
Use Knife achieves a unique symbiosis between Western underground music and traditional Arabic sounds. Drawing on propulsive electronic rhythms, sequenced melodies and vibrant drums, the trio expresses their vision of free thought in a globalized world.
Mary in the junkyard is one of those groups whose secret the London indie scene has: a single single on the clock but a solid stage reputation (notably at Windmill, a legendary club which saw the birth of Squid, Black Midi or Shame) and a hype which is growing. Singer Cari Freeman-Taylor's broken voice elevates their thunderous debut single, “Tuesday,” and rave comparisons to Big Thief
BWANA is the indie-pop/rock project of Friedel Dufait, fresh winner of the Nieuwe Lichting competition from Studio Brussel. Its deep guitar lines, with melancholic accents, constitute an ideal accompaniment to a voice instantly recognizable by its timbre and its power, reminiscent of Julia Jacklin or PJ Harvey.
